For the past eight years, Shannen Doherty has been battling breast cancer. She most recently used Instagram to inform her followers of her situation. She is seen in the post with brand-new bandages covering her chest. She accompanied the shot with an optimistic message, claiming she is still battling despite everything. Doherty used the hashtag “#cancerslayer” to sign off on the post.
After some time on hormone medication, Doherty discovered a lump in her breast in 2015 and underwent radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and a single mastectomy. Her cancer went into remission in 2017, but in February 2020, it resurfaced in a more advanced stage and spread to other parts of her body.
Breast cancer is classified according to its stage, with higher numbers indicating a more severe form of the disease or how far the cancerous cells have progressed from the original tumor.
Breast cancer in stage IV, sometimes called metastatic breast cancer, has spread to other body regions. After some time on hormone medication, Doherty discovered a lump in her breast in 2015 and underwent radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and a single mastectomy. Doherty’s cancer was in remission in 2017, but it came back in February 2020.
Over 150,000 breast cancer survivors are said to be coping with metastatic disease in the United States, according to the American Cancer Society. Even though metastatic breast cancer is frequently seen as incurable, recent technological advances have greatly extended patients’ lives. As a result, this illness is becoming increasingly treatable.
To get through tough times of cancer treatment, Doherty starred in two TV movies last year: List of a Lifetime and Dying to Belong. The actress has used social media over the years to discuss various aspects of her battle with cancer, including chemotherapy experiences.
She told her readers about her struggle with breast cancer in an article from October last year. She talked of the treatment’s repeated nosebleeds and how it left her feeling exhausted. Nevertheless, she wore a set of amusing pajamas that her friend Kristy had given her to add some humor to the situation.
“I believed that laughter was the best medicine when I was younger. In a sense, it is. Laughter can help us get through challenging circumstances and challenging times.
It can also enable us to view life’s more humorous side. But more significantly, laughing is a great way to make friends. We forge a connection that is difficult to sever when we laugh together. And that’s why I find laughter so enjoyable. It can unite us and improve our moods.”
We pray for Shannen’s good health and hope she can get through this tough challenge that life throws her.
